Grade 8 Project: Animal Farm
By Asha (Grade 8)
We, the 8th graders, are reading a famous English novella called ‘Animal Farm’ in English class. The ideology around which the book is centred is aptly named ‘Animalism’

Animalism was inspired by a speech made by an elderly pig. The pig, called Old Major, spoke of a time in the future when farm animals around England would no longer have masters, and when this day would come, how no animal should behave like a human in any manner. Even after Old Major’s death, the farm animals were inspired by his words and rebelled against the owner of the farm, Mr Jones and took over their own affairs.
Animalism was compiled into the Seven Commandments, and further shortened to a one-liner; ‘4 legs good, 2 legs bad’. One important Commandment was “All animals are equal”. The other commandments were centered around not adopting human behaviour and no interaction with humans and their property. Over the years, Animalism drastically changes form and is almost unrecognizable to those who have seen Animal Farm in its early days.
Both classes, 8A and 8B, made visuals (posters) depicting the main principles of Animalism and they were put up on the bulletin board next to the Senior Audi.
