Interviewing Sharad Sir and Khalida Akka
By Reya Shah and Daham Mansingka (Grade 11
Q: How has the experience with the preparations for this edition of the Sports Fest been? Sharad Sir (SS): We began the preparations early this year, almost before the term began. The school administration has been a big help. They ensured that the grounds were ready on time and that we had robust facilities for everyone. Khalida Akka (KA): The new facilities and equipment have ensured that we have decent and safe spaces to play at. We noticed a few injuries in the senior school students but this was as some of them had not readied their bodies appropriately. We will ensure better preparation next time.
Q: What has been the toughest part about coordinating this Sports Fest? SS: The main challenge is always managing time and energy so that no one gets exhausted. That is why we added an extra day this year and spaced out the events - to enable the students to participate without feeling rushed. KA: In the beginning it felt quite uncertain and even overwhelming at times. The planning began 2 or 3 months before the Sports Fest. Initially, there was a lot to figure out but gradually things fell into place and the process has been fun.
Q: What new changes or facilities have been introduced this year? SS: The new Volley Ball courts have made a big difference. They have opened up more space for participation, including for girls. They also enable the matches to happen more safely and smoothly. KA: We introduced more open events this year to encourage more participation. These open events are welcome because students can join out of interest rather than feeling forced.
Q: How has student participation been this year? SS: Student participation has definitely increased, especially amongst girls. Many students are coming forward to try out, and even those who are unsure are at least willing to practice and see how it goes. KA: The PE students have been a huge support. They not only participated but also helped with the organizing as well. These they did with genuine interest and it helped contribute to the positive atmosphere.
Q: Were there any standout events or moments for you? KA: High jump was surely a highlight. I was concerned about injuries initially but the students’ enthusiasm helped me overcome my fears. It was an open event and many students who had been quietly practicing finally got a chance to try their jumps. SS: The cricket match was special for me; the players gave their hundred percent, and it felt very good to watch them play with so much heart. The relay races, which KA coordinated, were also memorable because the students and spectators both had a great time.
Q: Sohm broke the school record in High Jump this year. What did you think about that? SS: Sohm’s record was a special moment. It showed what steady practice and confidence can do. It also set a new benchmark that can inspire other students to aim higher. KA: I felt glad watching that jump. More than just the height, it was the calmness in the run‑up and the commitment to the attempt that stood out, and it sent a strong message that with patience and consistent effort, students can achieve remarkable things.
Q: What do you hope students learnt from the Sports Fest? SS: I want students to keep improving their skills and learn to play with different people. Practice helps, and working on bones, muscles, and technique throughout the year prepares them to perform well when the Sports Fest arrives. KA: I am keen that the students have confidence in themselves. The Sports Fest is a chance to keep trying, to step out beyond their comfort zones, to enjoy sports and not just worry about results.
Q: Finally, what message would you like to give to students? SS: Keep practising through the year, not just right before the Sports Fest. Build your strength, speed and muscular endurance so that you can participate safely and confidently KA: Don’t be afraid to try new sports and keep enjoying. Effort and enthusiasm matter as much as winning, so just keep trying and stay open to new experiences.
