Alumni Meet: 30 Years of Sahyadri
By Reya Shah and Swara Bathe (Grade 11)
We used to wonder why Sahyadri had not had an Alumni Meet where we could connect with alumni and they with the school. Alumni not only have a special connection with Sahyadri but they also undertake a range of interesting actions that they can share with us.
On the 21st and 22nd of December we had the first Alumni Meet at Sahyadri. Around 80 alumni, ranging from the earliest to the most recent batch, attended the event. We had planned a range of activities including sports and folk-dance that they would have enjoyed during their time at Sahyadri. They also interacted with students and shared the memories they made at school and their experiences in the world beyond Sahyadri.
The event was a success and we look forward to having it on Sahyadri’s annual calendar.
We caught up with two recently passed alumni and posed a few questions to both of them -
AASHI GOYAL-
Q1. What does Sahyadri mean to you? → For me Sahyadri has been a home. Being here for the past 9 years, this is what I feel instinctively every time I think of this place.
Q2. Any funny/ amusing incidents that you experienced during your time at school? → During my first month at Sahyadri I got sick and was sent back home. There was a possibility that I might not come back for grade 11 and it had seemed like a terrifying prospect to me.
Q3. What are you currently studying and what subject combination did you opt for in grades 11 and 12? → Currently I am studying fashion designing. I was clear of what I wanted to do after school and during grades 11 and 12, as a back-up plan, I had opted for Commerce.
Q4. Do you miss school? What was it like after having left this place for college? → The culture here is one that I miss immensely. Leaving this place was definitely a huge shift, and I experienced a cultural shock as I entered my college life. I didn’t realise how much I actually missed this place until I came back here.
AHONA PAN
Q1. What does Sahyadri mean to you? → To me, the people of Sahyadri, its environment, are home. I grew up as a person here and I associate the place with growth.
Q2. What was your favourite part about Sahyadri? → The Art Room for sure. The place was special for me; I always felt welcome and went whenever I had free time.
Q3. Do you miss Sahyadri food? → Yes! The food I had at Sahyadri was always wholesome and well-rounded. I think, for me, college life seems to have taken that away, at-least for now.
Q4. What are the smaller things you connected to in the school? → In Junior and Middle school I would stay in the Art Room for hours setting up looms in the weaving room. Even during the games time, I would be either in the tinker shed or in the weaving room. The Art Room made me feel connected to the school.
