For the First Chill
By Naina Chaudhary (Grade 10)
It is the beginning of the term, or the mere continuation of the year that is about to end. The heavy feeling of leaving our homes, missing our 10-hours-long sleep and our mothers’ home-cooked food is tough, and it is a lie if you say you do not miss it. Everyone does and it is natural, but returning and living on this hill is an experience or rather a journey. We may never know what we might encounter. Some may see a ‘Bibtya’ loitering around, some may spot a rare paradise flycatcher in the open, and everyone will see the constellations at night.
The beauty we see in simple things mould us for the world. Like ice in the winter we freeze, in the summer we are water flowing in the ways we desire. For a lot of us, Sahyadri is our second home, it keeps us safe from the raw world. We will miss it when we go out in the open, and we will smile when we look back. This time in school is precious and the memories we make here will last us years to come. The dry leaves fall marking the start for the new ones to grow, it is the beginning and the end is yet to come, but we cherish the present because time does not wait for us. We just have to make the most of it.
