School Day Celebration
By Maian Rangad (Grade 11)
Every year on the 10th of September, Sahyadri School celebrates its Founding Day, celebrating the time that has passed since the establishment of the school. This year is a special year for the school, as it is the 30th year since the founding of the institute. In these 30 years the school has changed remarkably, batches have come and gone, new infrastructure has been built and old ones torn down, teachers have joined and left, and the school is a different place than what it was 30 years ago. But one thing that has not changed since its beginning is the spirit of the school.
Since its conception the school has always been an institution for academic excellence. But the school does more than just academics; it has transformed individuals into people who are ready and suited for society and the outside world. People who have passed out of this school or have interacted with this school in any way speak highly of the experience the school provides. The overall experience that the school provides through its extracurricular activities makes it stand out. I am a fresher and my decision to be enrolled in the school was based on this factor, and even though I have only been in this school for a short period of time, I feel so lucky to be part of such an amazing school, especially when I witnessed this year’s School Day Event.
The school day celebration began at 8:30 AM, in place of the usual assembly that takes place every morning. We had a special assembly put together by the students of Grade 12, that began with a quiz. The quiz teams had members from the audience who had been picked at random alongwith 2 teachers. There were 4 teams randomly picked by the 12th graders and the audience formed the 5th team. The questions focussed on the different aspects of the school and had been divided into different sections such as, “How Well Do You Know Sahyadri”, “Heroes behind the Scenes” and “2 Truths and a Lie.”. They tested the teams’ knowledge about the different aspects of school. As usual, the team that ended up winning was the audience.
After this we were shown a few interviews that were taken with different members of the school, Hiya from Grade 12, Nagaarjun Sir, Telang Sir, Udity Akka and Pramod Sir. They were all asked about their first memories and experiences of Sahyadri, and these interviews led everyone down memory lane reminding them of their first memories of the school. Following this we were shown an edited compilation of pictures taken by Aarav Mitra specifically for the School Day celebration showing the daily life of students and teachers in Sahyadri which was an enriching sight. With this the assembly came to an end, but School Day as a whole had just begun.
In Sahyadri it is a tradition for the Grade 10 students to teach the rest of the students, so for the entire day up until the lunch break, we were taught and entertained by Grade 10 students. They enlightened us on different topics and played different games with our class too. So far this has been one of the most entertaining and memorable days in my Sahyadri life, and I eagerly await the next Sahyadri event.
